The Guzzler

I was going to write a little narrative about drinking. How I've always felt more comfortable if I know where my next cup of tea is coming from. (Yes, that sort of drinking). Or coffee. Or pretty much anything as long as it's warm. My mother always called me The Guzzler and I admit, my kidneys are constantly irrigated. Probably to flood plain level.

But today, I was slumpy. Heady. Throaty. Off colour in a ' need a Lemsip and hot buttered toasty - stat' sort of way. 'And maybe some of that cinnamon waffley ice cream whilst you're there'? Who am I kidding. The house was empty and even if it wasn't ...

The photo is rather sweet though isn't it? Or mildly freaky depending on your take. There were no new-fangled sippy cups in the early 60's. A child learnt mug control at a very young age. Skills for life, you might say.

Photo = me, c. 1963, demonstrating quite adeptly for one so young, the 'grip and grasp' method of mug manipulation.

Sorry to hear you're feeling unwell. I hope you're on the mend soon.

I can do without many things, but tea is not one of them. I'm one of those who always takes several teabags on holiday, just in case they don't have the ones I like.

Love the photo.

Look at those cheeks! So cute. Do feel better soon. We all need spring desperately, I think.

I'm like Debs - I like to have my teabags at the ready. I'm a PG Tips lover and always buy in bulk when I'm back in the UK. My wife likes Earl's Grey which I can't stand. Mr Slob married Miss Refined!

Bet you've got a pair of biceps to be proud of after all that early weight lifting.

I'd like to say that I travel with my own coffee and I really did the last time I was in Alaska and stayed in a motel. They had a coffeemaker in the room, but terrible coffee and I came prepared. I like to drink Senseo, though, and not many places have Senseo machines. That's really all I need, oh yes, and my cigarettes.

Awww you always need MORE fluids when you're under the weather - make a flask of tea, sit by the fire and indulge yourself. Make up another flask with that lovely thin chicken noodle soup. Toat some crumpets. Butter them. Have some more tea. I *heart* Ty-Phoo (which you only get an 'OO' with!) feel better soon x

I love the photo, and I particularly love the 1960's print on mummy's dress. Adorable!

Debs - Very sensible too. Can you imagine having to make do with just any old tea?:-)

SueG - we do. Oh we do.

Dumdad - or should I call you Mr Slob? I like earl Grey too but only in the afternoon of course. Far too lightweight for breakfast:-)

DOT - Oh I have. Or are they bingo wings:-)

The Green Stone Woman - that must be the pod coffee? I've never had it but sounds good.

Debs R - you certainly do get an oo with Typhoo:-) Some adverts just stick forever don't they.
Must remember to stock up with crumpets and noodle soup too:-)

Sonia - yes, a complete natural with her vice like grip:-)

Spiral - Send lots. I know you've got some down your way:-)

Must Work For Self - Hi there. Me too. Wish she'd kept it:-)

Tea -drinking is a very important skill - so glad that you mastered it early.

And I'll send you some sunshine too - there's LOADS down here - though I hope you don't mind a few blowies with it?

So sorry you feel Lemsip over tea poorly. We can spare some heat here so I am sending it forthwith.

You know how much I heart tea. I get very anxious when my teabag supply diminishes.

Feel better soon.

Awwww, you're so cuuuuute, and look at all that HAIR already! I'm also an avid tea drinker, although of the herbal persuasion, but when I'm feeling under the weather I always crave hot orange juice (half fresh OJ, half boiling water). The rest of the time I think it's yukky, but when I feel slumpy and heady and throaty, it's my drink of desire. Hope you're feeling better today.

Clearing throat, 'Ahem, I feel poorly today too... is there any cinnamon waffley ice cream left for me?' Hope you feel better soon. Hope I feel better soon too.

Hope you improve soon Lane - colds make you feel so horrible don't they? I would add a splash of whisky if you have some..... take care.

Ooh, we always drank tea as children and I think my mum has a similar photo of me supping the amber nectar! My children used to think it quite odd, but my daughter has been partial to her cuppas for a few years now.

I've had teacakes (with tea) for breakfast which has made me feel rather sleepy. Tut.

Hope you're feeling better soon :o)

Hope you're feeling better today, or at least got your hands on some of that ice cream! I'm also a hot drink addict. This means the mugs in the cupboard have got progressively bigger. It's fine if you need 3 spoons of coffee in a mug isn't it?

Fia said...

That mug's big enough to learn to swim in let alone guzzle tea.

I hope you're having an equally large bowl of ice cream. With lashing of golden syrup of course.

Oh sorry to hear you are feeling rotten. Hope you can find someone to bring you the elusive ice cream and Lemsip - when is teenager home?

Ah, cute little Lane with her eyes squinched --is it pleasure or concentration? What a treasure of a photo to have. We did not drink tea at this age but were indulged with "coffee milk"(a glass of milk with a couple of spoons of coffee in it). Very grown up.

Hope you're feeling better today, Lane.
Love the photo - I was going to mention the 'squinched' eyes as well. I think it was the anticipation of the tea to come.

Aww, cute! You were serious about your drinking even then, Lane.

Hope you're feeling much better today.

love this post Lane. I was sipping from a non sippy mug too circa 1963!
Get well soon. Fx

I think you are perfect. Sixties babies rule - chubby feet, indeterminate hair do, home spun clothes and yes, as you show, demonstrating perfect (undoubtedly unsterilised) cup control. So much better than the freak shows in Burberry you see these days. Have you seen Tom Cruise's daughter - high heels!! The world has gone utterly mad. Sixties babies were just that - babies. (I know, I sound about 400 years old, but even so...)

Oh you'd do well with Himself. He would have tea on the go all day. I can only manage about two a day before I feel awash. I have taken to green tea of late though but still only a couple a day. We spend more money on t-bags than almost anything else in this house.

Troy beat me to it with the punch line, but what really does it for me is the look of bliss and concentration on your wee face.

Hope you did get that ice cream after all!
Stomach bug going around here, feel pretty rotten myself. But no ice cream please! ;)

Love the photo!

Glad to hear you're feeling better, Lane. Like Debs, I take teabags on holiday (Marks and Spencer Gold) and need constant cuppas all day long (with sugar, shame on me), or I get very very cranky indeed! :)

Hope you are feeling better Lane and really hope to see you at next wannabe meeting:)
