Cosy

This time last year, I was feeling a little...low. It happens most years when the clocks go back. Unable to concentrate on anything for long, I started to crochet what became known in our house as lushury blankie. (Peggy speak for 'luxury blanket').

It looked like this

Peggy had her eye on it from the very start. Every time I picked it up to to do a row, she would be there, tangling herself up in the wool and trying to curl up on a corner, determined to lay claim to it before anyone else.

Now it's finished and it looks like this - over six feet long and as wide as my arm span. It's everything Peg hoped for and more.

And it's proving very popular

For when there's something good on TV

And for when there isn't

Coo, that's really gorgeous. No wonder the dogs love it.

That's a real feat of engineering! I admire your perseverance, it's gorgeous. If you can create that, then finishing the book should be no problem!

Think I'm going to be oohing and ahhing over the pics for a while...

I love the colours what a gorgeous blanket. I have ben crocheting a small scarf for my small daughter for a while - i hope to finish it while it's still winter. what stitch did you use(if my younger self could hear me what mockery there would be!) Well done. I get down this time of year- but nano write seems to be buoying me up this year.

Well done Hen, it looks jolly cosy and those lovely colours are a tonic. The best thing to remember about this miserable time of year is that when the winter solstice happens around the 22nd of December, that the nights get shorter and before you know it, the days get longer! Hooooray!

My dogs snuggle into two single duvets that are kept behind the couch up against a wall. They burrow in and get comatosed in no time. It's sweet just to see a wee heads sticking out. They love it even more when the duvet's are toasty warm and just out of the tumble drier.

Love the zingy colours. Guaranteed to banish the winter wibbles. You're a marvel, I say you're a marvel!

Thank goodness for changes in the seasons. I personally love these rainy cold days coming into winter. No more leaves to rake or grass to mow. Peggy F probably knows how fetching she looks tucked under HER blanket. At least she shares the limelight with Teas. BTW, Willie didn't get his own "slanket"--he'll share mine. We like it this way as you all do. What's the next knitting project?

LOVE IT!

Every home should have one - "Hug the Hibernating Rug" :-) TFxx

Oops! Make that what's your next crocheting project? I guess you can tell I'm a knitting student dropout. . .

Wow, that's an incredible feat. I want one too.

Gorgeous photos, so sweet.

Why count cows when you can start you're own cottage industry?

Dude, I am SO glad I am not the only one with "November Funk Crochet-itis"... I was just sitting here wondering what the hell was wrong with me.

I've been contemplating the doom of the planet, and yesterday I finished a crocheted bag and crocheted two scarves.

Glad it's not just me that's off kilter. Which is not to say I'm glad you are off kilter, you know... I guess I'll just put off that call to the Funny Farm.

For now.

Oh Lane, that's so cute! I love how animals snuggle up anywhere (no, that is not meant to sound like your blanket isn't nice!) x

FanTAStic! It looks so cosy I want to snuggle up in it too :o) My gran taught me to crochet years ago (and knit) and every now and then I get the urge to pick it up again - like now! Very relaxing too, I find.

I always feels odd for a while, when the clocks go back :o(

That's a brilliant lushury blankie! I want one, too!

Love the photos of the dogs all snuggled up in it. Do you get your turn to use it at some stage?

Annieye said...

I want a lushury blanket and so do Zak and Barney.

When my mum was in the hospice 3 years ago, we bought a load of wool and crochet hooks and made squares for a blanket while we were sitting with her.

It's totally wonderful. I could hibernate in that. Bliss.

That is marvellous. My cats are most jealous.

With you on the seasonal front, Lane. Dogs, as ever, gorgeous and so is cosy blanket. I do know how to crochet and you've got me thinking - maybe I should take it up again in order to have no hand free for cramming too many sweetie-snacks into my gob - comfort-eating because it's dark and it's winter and ....

I need me a lushury blankie, all bright and cheery like, just like yours! :) ... Fizz has claimed my old drab gray one beyond reclaiming, besides, it's old drab and gray, and well, I'm sure you get my point, without my having to make it.

Thank you for the heart warming smile. :) (((((HUGS!!!!))))

PS Brilliant news about the nicotine - or rather lack of it. Been there myself, the most difficult thing I've ever done. Well done you!

That's one heck of a nice blanket. You did a great job.

Shirley - It's now their favourite:-)

JJ - thanks m'dear

Denise - hmmmm, if only it were that simple:-)

Sonia - my younger self would be appalled too:-)
I think it's double stitch - nice and simple.
Well done on doing NaNo btw.

MOB - I look forward to the solstice!
So funny about the toastie warm duvets. Don't they love their comforts:-)

Spiral - isn't marvel a wondrous word. Thank you:-)

Faye - no grass cutting is a big plus, I must admit.
The next /current project is a cushion cover. And maybe another smaller blanket. Very relaxing.
As for knitting - I've never been able to knit. And with crochet I can only do straight lines:-)

Tom Foolery - thank you. And yes they should!

Debs - Thank you:-)

McBobo - cows? Where? Moooo:-)

Marcheline - I'm glad I'm not the only one too:-) If a bit of wool and a hook can stave off a bit of funk then so be it . And look how productive you've been:-)

Aims - thank you x

L -plate - if they stay off the clean washing, I'm happy:-)

Karen - likewise. I'll do loads and then nothing for months. Definitely an autumn/winter hiberhuggle thing.

Babaloo - i get my turn of the lushury but strangely, I'm never alone:-)

Annieye - that's lovely Annie. Is it still used at the hospice?

Fia - hibernation sounds good. Even a nice sit down sounds good at the moment:-)

Helen - I think you'd better make them one:-)

Lorna F - Eating and crocheting at the same time is difficult, yes. But not impossible. Where there's a will, there's a Hob Nob. Or a custard Cream. Or even a *gasp*....Lindor -

Dar - Doesn't matter if it's dull and grey. As long as it's warm. And I bet in Fizz's eyes it's still lushury:-)

Liane - thank you:-)

Laurie - They suit it don't they?:-)

Amanda - thank you for all those adjectives:-)

Flowerpot - thank you - crochet helped when the cravings called.

The Green Stone Woman - thank you very much.

Ooohhh, it's gorgeous!!! I love the colours...that must have taken forever!!

I have never been able to work out how to crochet....but I have to say that I do love my extreme knitting!! (I think that might have something to do with the fact that I can make things really fast....the throw for the chair only took three days!!). You can get extreme crochet hooks too....perhaps I should get a set??

Wow, that is truly gorgeous. I'm making a blanket of squares, my first crochet project so I didn't know you could do them in long stripes like this. I might want to have a go... did you use a pattern?

French Fancy said...

I love to see your doggy gang and I bet they can still smell the sweaty hands that made that so lovingly.

I know what you mean about feeling down - it's like here atm really

Pat Posner said...

It's taken ages for blogger to let me onto your blog, Lane!

Tim and Ted love the blankie.

Lane said...

Carol - I had no idea you could extreme crochet! Must check it out.

Queenie - didn't use a pattern. I don't really know how to. I just did lots of lines and then hemmed it:-)

French Fancy - well they've certainly put their own unique 'scent' on it now:-)

DJ - Weird isn't it. I've never been good at this time of year.

Pay. Wonder why blogger took so long.
Bet T&T have a special blankie of their own:-)
