The t-pod. A Progression to Paper

There's procrastination and then there's procrastination. Last year I wittered to you (here) about my cunning invention - the t-pod. Desperate for a cuppa first thing in the morning and after my nap(s) and with no-one ever on hand to make one, I looked for a teasmaid (teasmade?) and found them all to be horrendously ugly. Hence my invention - the t-pod.
It would be sleek. It would be glossy. It would make just one cup of tea to get you on your way. It would resemble the London Gherkin building but be cheaper to build. Single people would love it. Couples could have one each, in the colour of their choice and with their favourite tea. His and Hers. His and His. Hers and Hers.
Since then I have done costing (no I haven't), made a prototype (no I haven't), worked out how it will actually work (no I haven't), got a patent (no I haven't), registered the name (no I haven't).
I have drawn a picture though. You want one don't you. I may have to make a sticky-back plastic mock-up next - not having any components (that's 'electrical' lingo) to hand.
It wouldn't make coffee though. If you like coffee first thing in the morning you'll have to go downstairs and make it yourself, you lazy thing.

I drink coffee in the morning so shall now do some costing, work out how it works, get a patent and register the name for....wait for it...yes, the cpod!

(not that same as tpod is it? hasn't got that funky sound!)

Personally, I think your tpod is genius! And would want one in green! (although I do like the sleek red version too!)

Leatherdykeuk said...

Love it, though it needs to have a mechanism to take the tea bag out!

I'd need a coffeepod like pacha.

The t-pod looks great, though and I really think you should make a 3D model.

JJ said...

Oh Lane, Lane, I WANT one - I want one in orange, obviously, NOW. Please patent it, and make it a realitea. (Sorry) JJx

Marvellous, Lane. I'll have two.

Can I have one in the same colours as your Mother's trolley? :-)

I'm getting a vague sense that you're a big picture kind of a gal, more used to taking a helicopter view and thinking outside the box.

Though I think LanePot (TM) is a better name. Then at last you can become eponymous.

Clearly you need to meet a helpful task-completer to realise your project! Or improve your ability to play business buzzword bingo.

hey, that's the first step to your millions!

i have a little teamaker at my desk at work. you brits would be horrified, i'm sure. but it works slick, and every morning i make myself a nice cup of green tea.

(more horror, right? green?)

Pacha - I think a cpod sounds cool!
They could be like little brother and sister machines:-)

LDUK - Ah the diagram is misleading. The teabag goes in the cleverly concealed thingy in the back:-) Ringtons for you isn't it?:-)

Pat - A model would involve more procrastination. Maybe I could get younger daughter to knock one up from papier mache:-)

JJ - orange would be quite lovely. Very fruity:-) Sadly normalitea prevents me from making this a realitea:-)

Nik - oh a pre-order. This is like Amazon:-)

Annie B - wouldn't that be something! I shall look into my paint box:-)

Bobo - but I like buzzword bingo.
I think you've got my drift here haven't you. Your eminently sensible business brain has already deduced that mine is actually missing:-)

Laurie - no horror at green tea Laurie. Love it, just not first thing in the morning! I think I spotted your little tea maker on one of your desk photos:-)

sounds like a brilliant idea Lane. Great drawing too - good and cheerful to ward off all this b rain!

I have no comment to make. No, I have. (Now I am confused.)

ChrisH said...

That's all very fine and dandy... but have you been writing? (said in stern voice!!)

Lindsay said...

I think you might get electrocuted?

aims said...

Oops - I just put the coffee on....

I didn't drink coffee for 23 years. Then my brother got a commercial capuccino machine and he needed a taster.....dammit!!

I had tea down to a science before that!

TOM FOOLERY said...

Lane, I'm liking this invention (you too are possibly mad, like me :) Now from the clock part of the Pod can we have a cuckoo to provide some sound effects? Oh, BTW I need to know was the chicken alive or still clucking when it was giving you jip? TFx

That looks rather clever, can I have one too and can it hold a large cup for when I'm really thirsty and can't be bothered to make more than one.

Opps, I always did talk too much. I'm a little confused today, more than usual, obviously.

elizabeth said...

You sketched it! And sketched it rather well I'd say... I'd buy it.

I look forward to seeing you on Dragon's Den with this. But the dragons' first question will be, 'Does it make coffee?'

Faye said...

Hum-mm. . .not to be judgmental but couldn't help noting the time setting on the t-pod. 7:00 a.m.? Can a struggling writer actually start her day that late? Of course, I'm probably jumping to conclusions--you're actually setting up your nightcap after a hard night's work?

Angie said...

Giggling through all the no I haven'ts. I would love a tpod in blue please, but the red is quite lovely! I would also like one of Pacha's cpods for the morning (tpod for the afternoon...). I'm amazed by your restraint to drink only one cup!

Zinnia Cyclamen said...

That made me smile. A lot. Can I have a purple one, please?

Yvonne said...

I'd buy one in a shot - I miss teasmades but they are so ugly! Yours looks so sleek and modern. Dragon's Den, hay ho!

Papercuts said...

I'd buy one! Let me know when it's available in Argos.

Hullaballoo said...

How about a bedside breadmaker or kids breakfast feeder or flea whipper? Now THEY are good ideas.

The the t-pod, can it make chips? No? I thought not lol.

Irene said...

Why don't you just get a coffee maker with a timer, but put a teabag in the pot instead and next to it put a carton of long lasting milk that doesn't spoil? You English people are so funny, putting milk in your tea anyway.

KAREN said...

I'd invest in this. We tried a teasmade (maid?) once, but they're hopeless (not to mention terribly seventies)whereas this looks both Fab and Groovy and I love the colours!

A base plate is essential by the way, but I'm not sure why either :o)

Frankies' Cornish Farmyard Ramblings said...

Loving it very much please can mine have farm animals on? Wonder if possible to personalise with photos or scribblings which could be the outer cover...No more time to write, you have found something that is going to make you big, in the money bank. Good Luck

flowerpot - thanks. And it's still raining!

Dot - ha! mission accomplished:-)

Chrish - ooh you're scary! Yes ma'am I am writing too - honest:-)

Lindsay - very probably where components are concerned:-)

Aims - cappuccino taster sounds like a good job to me!

TF - A cuckoo clock? Now you're just being silly:-) I did think of incorporating an ipod dock or making it in the shape of the Taj Mahal but thought it best to keep it simple. I'm very simple:-)
(ps - the chicken was very dead.

Debs, Debs, Debs - Just one cup I'm afraid. Any bigger and I'd stay in bed all day:-)

Elizabeth - hi again. Glad you like it! I lost your feed. Will go and replace you and visit:-)

Helenmh - and I will answer 'no it doesn't Theo/Peter/can't remember the rest of their names. It is for tea and tea alone:-)

Faye - you have eagle eyes. I am up way before 7am of course but thought it best to put a universal sort of getting up time:-) Can't be scaring people can we:-)

Angie - The 'one cup' is only in bed. By the time I hit the kitchen it's more or less tea/coffee all day. Addicted? Moi?

Zinnia - Purple it is then!. It will look like a big aubergine. Do you want a matching mug?:-)

Yvonne - ooh the pre-orders are coming thick and fast. I think the Dragon's Den crew would be impressed!:-)

Papercuts - hi there and welcome! I hope Argos are ready for this!:-)

Hullaballoo - chips in bed? Flea whipping in bed?? This must be a Scotterish thing. Us soft southerners couldn't cope with such things:-)

Irene - you are very logical and that may be the solution. It was fun to dream about it for a while though. Now I may have to invent something else:-)
Tea with no milk? Perish the thought:-)

Karen - Glad you like it. I think it may be an essential piece of writers kit. A limited edition Penguin Books one would be good!:-)

Frankie - I love the idea of ones with animals/scribbles. Sadly however I think I will have to put this idea to bed before I become (more of) a laughing stock and get on with the writing task at hand:-)

aims said...

btw Lane - you obviously haven't been over to read any of my latest posts as I mentioned Etsy in one of them and that is where Rachel heard.....shame on you!!

Love love LOVE it Lane!!! Your drawing is fab!!

Why don't you sell the idea??

I want one. Especially with the slanty blue 'morning!' mug.

I'll design your t-pod if you come round and clean my house? Then we can both get on with the writing :)

Absolute Vanilla (& Atyllah) said...

A master of design and engineering - I can just see it.
However, I don't want a tpod. I want a cocoapod - or is that a cocoa bean... See, you've confused me now and I'll have to go and make some hot choccie.

Lucy Diamond said...

I want one, I want one! Tea-drinkers of the world unite!
Ahem. Get yourself in that den of dragons immediately, I'm sure they'll sub you 100k or so for a 5% share in your business!

Tam said...

I soooooooooooooooooooo need one of these. If I had one of these I wouldn't need a husband :-)
Seriously, Lane, please go on DD. I'll be your advocate if you like?

I tried leaving a comment yesterday but Blogger blocked me! I was pining for PG Tips as I had run out ... so your post made me long for a nice cuppa ... but it's okay I bought some today.

wordtryst said...

Coffeepod for me, please. In bright purple.

motherx said...

It looks like it would be totally irresistable to W!! (in other words it wouuld last about 5 mins in our house!) sigh...one day! Ill have my own tpod...if Im lucky!

Leigh said...

Oh, no. Blogger ate my comment.
But as it was only to say that despite the picture not working I needed one of your t-pods. Now that the picture is working, I can see that I really do need one.

Mickmouse said...

Great tpod ! I am with the deep purple and chrome look I think! My hubby often comments about how often his cup seems to be empty...he drinks a lot of tea...so maybe there could be an auto refill button for the caffeine addicts amongst us, for which one cup may not cut it for getting out of bed!!

I'm speechless! I didn't know you were that talented in the technology department! ;-)
It's a great gadget and I would definitely buy one once you've brought it on the market. In fact, I would buy two. One for Felix' mug of tea and one to adapt it for the use with coffee for my morning mug of the black stuff! (Not THAT black stuff, mind...)

Tam said...

Ooooh, had a thought. Instead of putting the cup in the mug, you'd put it in a specials holder above the mug, so the water strains through it and removes the need to take the tea bag out afterwards.
Pleeeeeeassssse go on Dragon's Den! How can I badger my husband to buy me one if you don't?

Tam said...

Cup in the mug?? I'm all a flutter. Meant to say teabag in the mug...

Annieye said...

Perhaps we should get my technoson to make the prototype t-pod!

Great idea.
I'd like a hot chocolate pod too. Purple of course.

Casdok said...

Can i have a purple one?!

Lane said...

Aims - I have been reading Aims - honest but my memory must be failing:-)

Carol - thank you:-) I don't think potential manufacturers would be too impressed with it though:-)

B - Done! We'd have to move nearer each other first though:-) (and I know how you love where you live:-)

Absolute - I will modify it, just for you - to make cocoa too. Actually that's a good idea:-)

Lucy - those Dragon's would crush me. They are VERY scary:-)

Tam - Ha! Do you think I could go on and just hold up the drawing?:-) Do you think they'd laugh?;-)

Gonebacksouth - running out of PG Tips is very serious. Glad you've stocked up:-)

Wordtryst - a C-pod in purple. Done!:-)

Motherx - I'll have to make a super-strong, indestructible model, just for you:-)

Leigh - I'm glad you need one. I feel your need. The idea was born through need:-)

Mickmouse - hi and welcome! So that's purple and chrome in a super-sized model. I'll get on to it:-)

Babaloo - oh my technology department is something. I can tell you;-)
Glad you like it and I'm liking the 'his and hers' combinations:-)

Tam - You should be Head of T-pod Technology and Schematics. You've really embraced the idea!:-)
The Dragons would be impressed by my 'team':-)

Annieye - I'm sure Technoson would make a brilliant one. I will collect some 'components':-)

TBNIL - So many teas. So little time:-)

Cait - Another purple. I'd better draw a purple one then:-)

Casdok - Another purple. Seems to be the most popular colour. Who'd have thunk:-)
